Over time we will be adding resources to this page to support those who are organizing and running local groups such as study guides for books we publish, a speakers bureau, a recommended book list and so on.
Please share ideas with us of what you'd like us to provide.
General Resources
- The UU Humanist Association Brochure: This is a tri-fold brochure and includes a membership form. We highly recommend leaving a stack of these on your congregation's Newcomer Table at coffee hour, putting them in your congregation's literature rack and putting them out at local group meetings (and any other creative place you can find for them). You can right click on the link above and save the file to your local computer then upload it to a convenient print shop like Staples.com. Or, if you'd like us to send you some, please use the Contact form to let us know how many and to what address.
- The UU Humanist Mission, Core Values & Aspirations and Initiatives: This is a two page description of UU Humanists with more detail about our goals and activities.
- The Faith of a UU Humanist: This is a UUA pamphlet by Sarah Oelberg that gives a personal account of Humanism by a UU minister.
- Seeding Humanist Groups: Join an email discussion group for current and potential leaders of Humanist local groups managed by Pat Everett of Concord Area Humanists.
- If you prefer Facebook, check out the Freethought Group Organizers.
- The Curriculum Resources for the Life Span page of the The Kochlar Humanist Education Center has curriculum help for both adult and children's education.
- The AHA's Local Groups page has resources and advice on starting new local groups and leveraging the power of the American Humanist Association. We highly recommend that all Humanist local groups apply to become chapters of the AHA. Ask the Grassroots Coordinator for a copy of the Grassroots Manual.
- The AHA's "Paths to Humanism" brochure for Unitarian Universalists.
- The CFI Network of the Center for Inquiry is another great source for resources and help with launching and running a Humanist local group.
- The BHA Groups Hub is the British Humanist Association's website of resources for starting and running local groups.
Philanthropy / Volunteering Resources
If your humanist local group (or entire congregation) would like to get involved in volunteering or philanthropy that advances the humanist perspective, please consider these options:
- Foundation Beyond Belief (FBB), especially the Beyond Belief Network of teams doing volunteer work.
- The A+ Team at Kiva, which also teams up with FBB via the A+ Team Impact Fund at Foundation Beyond Belief.
- Hold a Giving Games workshop which not only does good but teaches participants about effective philanthropy.
